Florianópolis, Brazil

Florianópolis Brazil

Florianópolis is in southern Brazil and is the capital of the state of Santa Catarina. Half of the city is on the Brazilian mainland and the other half is on Santa Catarina Island. The island is famous for its beautiful beaches—there are more than 50. Most visitors head straight to these stunning stretches of sand, but Florianópolis’ city center is also a great area to explore, to try delicious local food, go shopping, or simply relax. It has several noteworthy sights that should not be missed. The Mercado Municipal is a fine example of late colonial architecture and the perfect place to experience the city’s lively atmosphere. Praça XV de Novembro is the heart of Florianópolis and home to the Catedral Metropolitana, one of its most beautiful buildings. In the same square stands the Velha Figueira, a centuries‑old fig tree considered a symbol of the city. Another important landmark is the Hercílio Luz Bridge, which connects the island to the mainland. Florianópolis is an ideal destination for enjoying some of Brazil’s most spectacular beaches. Visitors can also enjoy beautiful scenery, rich culture, and friendly people. For all of these reasons, Florianópolis has become one of the main tourist destinations in Brazil.
